RADCLIFF, Alice I.
Portage, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at her home. Alice was born January 28, 1925 in Elizabethtown, KY, the daughter of William Edward and Myrtle Irwin Singleton and had been a resident of the Kalamazoo, Michigan area for many years. Alice was well educated, well traveled, gracious, and dignified. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother who exhibited her strong Christian faith and love of God throughout her life. She was an active member of Second Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, a former member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Grand Rapids MI, and a former member of Walnut Street Baptist Church of Louisville KY. She had a passion for classical and choral church music which she exhibited through active memberships in church choirs including Walnut Street Baptist Church of Louisville KY and Westminster Presbyterian Church of Grand Rapids MI and in community symphonic choirs including the Grand Rapids MI and Redlands CA Symphonic Choirs. Alice was also an accomplished church soloist. She was additionally a devoted supporter and attendee of the arts including symphony orchestras in Louisville KY, Grand Rapids MI, Vero Beach FL, and Kalamazoo MI and local community theatre in all of the many cities in which she lived. In addition to music she enjoyed many other pursuits including gardening, home decorating, sewing, and was an excellent cook. Her interest in gardening was such that every one of her many homes were always alive with blooming flowers and interesting plants. Her skills at sewing resulted in many wonderful creations including costumes, pajamas, and doll clothes for her grandchildren. Alice was member of many volunteer, civic, and social organizations including St. Cecilia Music Society of Grand Rapids MI, Florence Waters Guild of Grand Rapids MI, and the Grand Rapids MI Women?s City Club. For several years you could find her presenting new mothers with pictures of their newborns at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids MI. On June 19, 1943 she was united in marriage to William Radcliff, who survives. Also surviving are her sons, William Pryor, Jr. Margie Radcliff of Indiana and Robert Parnell Karen Radcliff of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Mark William Radcliff and Mary Elisabeth Radcliff, both of Kalamazoo, and William Pryor Radcliff, III, of Indiana; two sisters, Camille Singleton and Margaret Shaw all of Louisville, KY; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William E. Singleton, Jr., and two sisters, Anna Sullivan and Laura O?Connor. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Following a private family committal service, a memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Drive, with Rev. Ralph Robrahn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Second Reformed Church Music Ministry.
