Alexander Lloyd Schmitt

September 1, 1981 — November 13, 2011

Alexander Lloyd Schmitt, of Houston, formerly of Kalamazoo September 1, 1981-November 13, 2011 Alexander L. Schmitt, died tragically, Nov. 13, in Houston TX, in a motorcycle accident. He was born Sept. 1, 1981 to William J. and Babette A. Schmitt, who survive. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Maxwell Schmitt and fiancé of Natalie Kiser. He is the grandson of William H. deceased and Joan Schmitt and Richard and Patricia deceased Wolfgram, nephew of Richelle and Steve Facik, Shari Kommassa Bruce, and Bonni Schmitt, great-nephew of Kathy and Jerry deceased Piepenburg, Mickey Kurt Leistikow; cousin to Susie, Greg, Teri Jeff, Jay, Joann Dave and Becky. Alex graduated with highest honors from Portage Northern H.S. in 2000, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and from the Georgia Institute of Technology with an MS in Mechanical Engineering, all with honors. He worked in Chicago, Atlanta, San Antonio and Houston. Alex left home to live in the world, make friends, and was just beginning an adult life. He was so full of promise, exhibiting relentlessness for solving difficult problems. He was kind, thoughtful, generous, organized, and quick of wit. We just can't believe that you're gone Alex, all of us who knew you. Our world is an emptier place without you. Please give someone a hug for Alex, and try to make something better. That was him. Your mother, father, brother, fiancé, relatives and many friends love you and miss you. This is very difficult. Rest in Peace. In lieu of flowers, though beautiful, the family asks that you please donate the equivalent to Portage Education Foundation, Northern High School Science Department, P.O. Box 2043, Portage, MI 49081, or your fondest high school's Math and Science curriculum, in Alex's memory. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Saturday Nov. 19 from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM. A Memorial service at Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist will be held later.
