Mattawan On Saturday, January 15, 2011, with his family by his side, Albert faithfully finished his earthly race and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born August 9, 1931 in Kalamazoo, one of fifteen children born to Henry and Trena Zomer Wolthuis. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was employed as a cement finisher, by trade, working for Miller-Davis, he became a business agent for Union Local 16 and later was partner in J.L. Murphy Construction Company. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church of Mattawan, where he served as a Deacon and as an Elder. He loved hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his children, grandchildren and his brothers and sisters. On August 5, 1955 he married Jackie Murphy, who survives. Together they were blessed with four children, Mark Rebecca Wolthuis of Kalamazoo, Larry Mary Wolthuis of Mattawan, Terri Hall Jim Fulton of Kalamazoo and Todd Kalee Wolthuis of Paw Paw; 14 grandchildren, Mike, Cris John, Megan Jason, Courtney, Chad Jaime, Jim, Kalee, Greg, Lindsay Jacob, Jill, Sam, Noah, Rachael and Jed; great grandchildren, Jaxson, Tessa and Lainee; brothers and sisters, Elsie Bill Kollar, Donna Dean Chapman, Paul Barb Wolthuis, Terry Jean Wolthuis, Jerry Doris Wolthuis and Daniel Libby Wolthuis; sisters-in-law, Pat Wolthuis, Betty J. Wolthuis, Sally Wolthuis and Betty Wolthuis; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim Diann Murphy; many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark in 2001; brothers, John, Bill, Lawrence, Richard, David, Tim and Jim; a sister, Marlo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Calvary Reformed Church, 7829 S. 5th St., Mattawan, with Pastor Greg Van Heukelom, officiating. Interment will take place in Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Calvary Reformed Church Mission Fund, the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or In House Hospice.
