October 27, 1954 — January 21, 2010

NEWHOUSE, Alan J.
Pine Lake Alan went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2010. He was born October 27, 1954 in Kalamazoo, MI, the youngest son of Jacob and Grace Rop Newhouse and had been a life long area resident. At the age of 12 he began working at his father's business, growing pansies and delivering strawberries. The business blossomed into growing perennials and Alan became a partner in Newhouse Nursery after his father retired. Al attended Valley Family Church since 1999. Alan has enjoyed living on Pine Lake since 1987 and was an avid golfer at Mullenhurst Golf Course. At a early age Al introduced the game to his son, hitting balls at Shagbark. He was very proud of his son when Josh received a scholarship at KVCC for the golf team. Al was preceded in death by: his parents; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Pinkster and a brother-in-law, Darwin Tuinstra. Surviving are his loving wife of 27 years, Deborah A. Newhouse; his son, Joshua A. Newhouse; two brothers, Charles Ruth Newhouse and Larry Pam Newhouse; a sister, Marcia Tuinstra; father- and mother-in-law, Jerry & Patricia Pinkster; three brothers-in-law, Michael Nancy Pinkster, Daniel Pinkster and Gregory Westra; a sister-in-law, Julie Eric Renzema; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration service will be held at 11:00 Monday morning in the Cathedral at Valley Family Church, 2600 Vincent Rd., with Pastor Jennifer Nederhoed officiating. Family and friends will gather at the Cathedral one hour prior to and after services. Al's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to an educational fund for the benefit of Joshua Newhouse established at National City.
