SLY, Mrs. Ada R.
Kalamazoo, MI Ada Rose Sly, age 81, passed away Sunday morning, March 31, 2013 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born on June 8, 1931 in Pennington Gap, VA a daughter of Robert and Mildred McKenzie Richards. She graduated from Berea College in Berea KY with a bachelor's degree in teaching and did some post-graduate work at the University of Wyoming. In 33 years of teaching Ada taught in rural Kentucky, Harrison and Williamston Michigan and retired after 26 years from Kalamazoo Public Schools. Ada was a member of Milwood United Methodist Church, M.E.A.R. and M.A.R.S.P. She enjoyed reading and travelling and after retiring, she spent winters in Florida. Ada was preceded in death by her parents. On December 28, 1956 Ada was united in marriage with Donald R. Sly, who survives. Also surviving are: two children, Steven D. Laurel Sly and Anne Sly all of Kalamazoo; a sister, Elizabeth J. Melton of Springboro, OH; a niece, Cindy Michael Vogt of Springboro, OH; and a nephew, Tom Elizabeth Melton of Waynesville, OH. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held 11:00 Thursday morning at Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage Street, with Rev. Kennetha Bigham-Tsai, officiating. Interment in Ft. Custer National Cemetery will be held at 2pm. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery cortege area by 1:45pm. Memorials may be directed to Milwood United Methodist Church, Building Fund or to Berea College.
