Portage CRANK, William Keith born 18 October 1927 in Guthrie Sissonville, West Virginia passed away on 30 May 2014. William had been ill over the past several years, but he leaves behind a colorful career starting in the US ARMY in August 1948 at FT Bragg, NC where he served his country during the Korean War. While in Korea he served with the 13th Combat Engineer Battalion, 7th Infantry Division as a Platoon Leader where he fought numerous campaigns from the Inchon Landing, Chosen Reservoir, and Yalu River earning him several awards and citations for his actions. After his return to the United States he was assigned to the 106th Combat Engineer Battalion at FT Jackson, South Carolina and moved with the unit to Camp Atterbury, Indiana where he separated from service on 28 February 1953 with an Honorable Discharge and went into the US ARMY Reserve's. He spent the rest of his career in the Aero-Space industry working for North American/Rockwell in Columbus, OH, Aeronca Aviation in Middletown, OH, Western Gear Corporation in Jamestown, ND, Mitsubishi Aircraft in San Angelo, TX and the Bendix Corporation in Detroit, MI and Worchester, MA to name a few. He is survived by the mother of his children Glada Crank of Middletown, OH and their children: Karen Williams Curt of Waverly, OH; Quentin Crank Myong of Brownstown, MI; Charlotte Anderson of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Eric Crank Lynn of Middletown, OH. His current wife JoAnn Crank of Portage, MI also survives William. He was the last surviving child of Summers and Biddie Crank of Sissonville, West Virginia who passed many years ago. He graduated from Sissonville High School in West Virginia and attended Ohio State University in Ohio. May his soul rest in peace for he has fought many battles and only succumbing to the one that took him from his family. Family will greet friends on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 10 - 11:00 am at Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, 5550 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI 49024, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 o'clock, Pastor David Barringer officiating. Following a luncheon, the burial will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, with military honors. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Reverence Hospice, 1521 Gull Rd., MSB300, Kalamazoo, MI 49048 or to the church.
