TERRELL, Vernon P.
of Comstock Passed away November 22, 2011 at Kairos Dwelling. Vernon was born April 16, 1917 in Paw Paw, MI, a son of Martin and Myrtie Winterburn Terrell. He was a lifelong resident of Comstock, graduated Class of 1936. Vernon was a former member of the Comstock United Methodist Church and more recently attended the First Free Will Baptist Church. He served as coordinator of the Comstock Food Pantry along with his wife Pauline for 15 years; was a life member of the F.O.E. Lodge #526 and served as a Boy Scout Leader for several years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 30 years at the James River Corporation. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline in 2008 and by a daughter Sherrie Slater in 2007. Surviving are a daughter Phyllis James Themins of Kalamazoo and 2 sons, James Sharon Terrell of Hernando, FL and Charles Terrell of Holland, MI; 8 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In the past several years, Vern has enjoyed numerous trips and activities with his children and grandchildren. All who knew him say, "The Cubs will get there yet." Visitation will be on Saturday, November 26 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway from 1:30 to 3:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 3 pm. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vernon's memory be made to the Comstock Community Center or Kairos Dwelling.
