Of Kalamazoo, MI Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at her home. Sue was born October 18, 1945 in Hillsdale, MI, a daughter of Henry and Flossie Emrich Fansler. She graduated from North Adams High School in 1963 and later graduated with honors from Western Michigan University in 1982 with a Teaching Degree. Sue taught school at Otsego Baptist Academy in Otsego, MI from 1986 to 1996 when she retired. Sue was an active member of the Berean Baptist Church in Portage, MI where she was very involved in children's ministries, choir and taught ladies Bible studies. Sue was preceded in death by her father Henry Fansler in 2005. On July 17, 1965, Sue was married in Hillsdale to Larry J. Scharp, who survives. Also surviving are a son Brian Jennifer Scharp of Grand Rapids and a daughter Sheri Matt Puett of Rockford; 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Joshua and Kelsie; her mother Flossie Fansler of Portage and a sister Carol Jensen of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 am on Monday at Berean Baptist Church, 7813 South 12th St. with Pastor Bill Abernathy and Pastor Steve Nichols officiating. Interment in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Street. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Sue's memory be made to the Berean Baptist Church Missions Fund.
