Died Sunday afternoon May 28, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Stan was born August 28, 1929 in Stueben County, Indiana. He was the son of Ivan and Ina (Stewart) Swift. He was a graduate of Bronson High School, and a Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of his life and owned and operated Swift Decorating Service for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrna L. (Kite) Swift on October 10, 1984; 4 brothers, Arnold, Irvin, Wayne, and Galen; and in-laws, Audrey (Owen) Townsend and Tody (Clarence) VandenBerg. He is survived by son, Stephen (Teri Bininger) Swift and daughter, Lori (Zack) Maki, grandchildren, Adam and Ashley Swift and Christina and Trevor Maki; a brother, Gero (Gayle) Swift of Matteson Township, MI; sisters, Ilene (Lynn) Ross of Matteson Township, MI and Ellen Jackson of Bronson, MI; sister-in-law, Bonnie Swift of Lewiston MI and sister-in-law, Mickie Swift of Matteson Township MI, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Terry (Carole) Kite of Kalamazoo, MI; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock Saturday, June 24th. Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private burial will take place in Hope Cemetery at a later date. A very special thank you to Stan's caregiver Helena Mengel whom without her help and excellent care we would not have been able to keep him at home. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their wonderful care. We would like to thank his Best Buddies, Archie, Virg, and Bob and Katie for their frequent visits to cheer him up and keeping him supplied with fresh fish during his long illness.
