HATFIELD, Rosemary Ellen
Kalamazoo Rosemary Ellen Hatfield was born April 23, 1921 in Estherville, Iowa to Stanley G. Ewen, D.D.S. and Myrtle B. Ewen. She died peacefully, August 29, 2013. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO and the University of Iowa, where she met her future husband. On June 27, 1942 she was united in marriage to Joseph P. Betty of Davenport, Iowa. Joseph Betty attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport and the University of Iowa law school. They made their home in Lima, Peru, where their children were born. They enjoyed his ten years of flying for Pan American Grace Airlines in South America and beginning their family. In 1956 Joseph Betty took a position with the Upjohn Company and he and Rosemary relocated to Kalamazoo, MI which became their permanent home. He preceded her in death in 1969. In 1972 she and Philip A. Hatfield were wed. He preceded her in death in 2010. Rosemary volunteered with the YWCA and the Kalamazoo Garden Council. She was a member of both the Landscapers and Petal Pushers Garden Clubs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, serving on the flower committee. She enjoyed lifelong activity with Bridge Clubs, a tennis group and book clubs. She is survived by her children; a daughter and son-in-law JoAnn and Raoul Yochim of Kalamazoo; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Julie Fountain Betty of Missoula, Montana; a step-daughter, Nancy Hatfield of Livingston, Montana; and a step-son and his wife, David and Deb Hatfield of Hastings, MI; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 6, 2013, 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo.
