Portage Roger Wester passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. He was born February 7, 1933 in Grand Rapids, the son of the late Evert and Mary Buitjes Wester. Roger attended WMU where he met the love of his life, Virginia Cooley, and they married on August 17th, 1957. They had been married for 57 years and have three children, Diana Tom Dutcher of Brighton, Keith Wester of Portage and Steve Diane Wester also of Portage; ten grandchildren, Brett, Nick, James, Paige, Angie, Brooke, Leigh, Jacob, Ryan and Adam. Roger was an agent for Allstate Insurance for 31 years, retiring in 1994. He proudly served his country in the Korean War with the U.S. Army Corps. He was a life-long member of the Elks. Roger's hobbies include golf he has a hole-in-one, sports, cards, casinos and anything that included his children and grandchildren's activities. Roger and Virginia also enjoyed spending the winters in Orange Beach, AL, with many visits from family and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings: Jean Schuiteman, Jacob Wester, Joan Hicks, Evert Wester, Cora Wilson, Phillip Wester, Gerrit Wester and Deanne Billups. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 2:00PM-4:00 PM and 5:00 PM -7PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., Portage, MI. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
