JENNINGS, Roger D.
of Portage, Michigan Roger passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in Sarasota, FL. He was born on August 1, 1938 in Ishpeming, MI, the son of Wesley and Tena Marjama Jennings. Roger was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed by General Motors Co. in Kalamazoo for over 35 years until his retirement. Roger was an avid sports fan and over the years played many sports including basketball, baseball and football and later became an avid golfer. Roger was married the former Marlene Tracy Gentry for 28 years, until her passing in 1995. Also preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Helen Beulow, Jean Dixon and Alice Warner and one brother, Bud Jennings. Surviving are six children, David Jennings of Gynn, Brian Sue Jennings of Niagara, WI, Don Brenda Gentry of Portage, Rick Gentry of Mattawan, Tracy Gentry of Shelbyville and Kimberly Kona Hosier of Nantucket, CT; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alger Jennings of Negaunee and Bruce Jennings of Schwartz Creek; long time partner, Marian Vickery of Vicksburg; Marion's family, Vickie, Darci, Derek, Lorie and Jordan and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Roger will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
