Robert Louis Powell

Robert Louis Powell, age 94 of Mattawan formerly of Galesburg, died February 14, 2020 at Brookdale Memory Care. He was born May 1, 1925, in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Frances (Braden) Powell. In 1943, he graduated from Galesburg High School. Bob served during WWII in the U.S. Navy. On April 7, 1945, he married Norma Rice. For 42 years, Bob worked as a data processor for KVP Sutherland/James River, until his retirement in 1987. Bob and Norma were longtime members of the Congregational Church of Galesburg. Caring for his family and his home were important and Bob was hardworking. He loved to garden, travel, and socialize with his friends and family. Bob is survived by his children: Stephen (Patti Wolff) Powell and Randy (Machelle) Powell; his 3 grandchildren: Ashley, Chelsey and Michael Powell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara and his brother Richard. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
