Mattawan, MI Entered eternal rest on December 24, 2013, with family at his side at Alamo Nursing Home, Kalamazoo, MI. Richard was born on March 12, 1924 in Chicago, IL to the late Louis and Elizabeth Koles Kosty. Richard grew up in Chicago, graduating from Harper High School and Illinois Institute of Technology as a drafting engineer. He served in the military during World War II and toured the European Theatre as a machine-gunner for the 43rd Army. While in France, he was injured and returned home with a life long disabling foot injury. Despite his physical handicap, he enjoyed the outdoors and especially lake living. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater. After retiring from the Eaton Corporation, he devoted his time playing Bridge and received his Life Master in 2004 from ACBL in Vero Beach, FL. On April 21, 1945 he was united in marriage to Ann Rita O'Connor, who preceded him in death on August 3, 1994. Ann and Richard left the Chicago Area and moved to Eagle Lake where they built their home and raised their family. Richard was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Mattawan, MI for many years and later moved to the South Haven area. Richard is survived by a daughter and spouse, Nancy and Kim Hall of Mattawan, a son and spouse, Richard Michael and Mary Lou Kosty of Kentwood, MI; four grandchildren, Kari and Tim Kubiak, Chad and Traci Hall, Lance Kosty and Aaron Kosty; one great-granddaughter, Riley Ann Daggett; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Kosty and Wayne Kosty. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Mathew Illikattil will officiate. A private graveside service will take place later in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Paw Paw. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
