of Kalamazoo Passed away September 21, 2011 at her home. She was born March 4, 1949 in North Kingstown, RI to Paul and Valborg Olson Hughes. Rachel worked as a nurse for 38 years, with 35 years at Borgess Hospital. She loved to knit club, knit-wits, do needlework, and she enjoyed science fiction, especially Star Trek. Surviving Rachel are her mother, Valborg Hughes; brother, Dr. Sean Susan Hughes; niece, Erin Hughes; aunt, Peggy Williams; uncle, James Vatne; her close and dear friend, Mary Mousseau; and her beloved pets, Pickle, Cloud, Bandit and Lady Lou Lou. Preceding Rachel in death was her father, Paul. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place Saturday, September 24th, 2:00 o'clock at The Fountains Auditorium. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue.
