Gunderson, Phyllis Jean
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Upjohn Community Care Center. Age 89. Phyllis was born in Rochelle, IL on October 22, 1924, the daughter of the late LeRoy and Alice Worthington Dales. She was married to Howard Gunderson; he preceded her in death. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She retired from Western Michigan University and worked at Waldo Library. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, loved playing bridge and bowling and was an avid reader. She is survived by her children, Deborah Gunderson of Kalamazoo, Mary Brian O'Donnell of Georgia and Michael Gunderson of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Angela, Melinda, Brandon and Cameron; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Dales of Illinois; one niece and one nephew, Marcia and Doug. She was preceded in death by one brother, Duane Dales. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Calvary Bible Church, 855 South Drake Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Dr. John Barnett will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the Alzheimer's Association.
