Philip passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born September 26, 1930 in Buchanan, MI to the late Claude and Elsie (Meyers) Small. Philip was united in marriage to Wanda Cartwright on July 16, 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from January of 1952 until honorably discharged in October of 1953. Philip worked as an architect for General Motors for 44 years until retiring. Phil's hobbies included woodworking, gardening and crossword puzzles. Philip is survived by his wife, Wanda Small; children, Karen (Greg) Hokenson, Ken Small and Christine (Todd) Hartman; 7 grandchildren, Sarah (Eric) Therkildsen, Grace (Luke) Schneider, Michael Hokenson, Jennifer (Matt) Henderson, Nikki Hartman, Joshua Hartman and Jordan Hartman; 6 great grandchildren, Clayton, Jeriah and Mathias Therkildsen, Olivia, Elizabeth and Julia Schneider; sister, Wanda (Chuck) McConnell; sister-in-law, Delores Small; and many nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wayne Small and Walter Small. The family will greet friends on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 2-5pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. A funeral service will take place Monday, September 14, 2015, 11:00am at Oakland Drive Christian Church, 7331 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI. Pastor Jordan Kellicut will officiate. Interment will follow a luncheon at 2:00pm in Ft. Custer National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to Oakland Drive Christian Church.
