WOODALL, Muriel G.
Of Austin, TX
Formerly of Kalamazoo, MI Muriel G. Woodall of Austin, TX, formerly of Kalamazoo, MI, was victorious and joined the Lord for rest and peace on Sunday, January 23, 2011. Muriel was an amazingly devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Despite the challenges she faced herself, she was the most kind and giving person that can be imagined. Her faith in God and in the basic goodness of all people was strong and steady. She will be greatly missed. Muriel was a dedicated Registered Nurse for many years. She was esteemed by those who worked with her and was a treasure to those she cared for. Muriel was preceded in death by her first husband Verners Varnis when she was a young woman. She wonderfully raised two young boys on her own in a time before 'single parenting' had much social support. Eventually she remarried and then also outlived Williard Woodall. Muriel is survived by her two sons, Harold G. Varnis of Austin, TX and Steven L. Varnis of Kingwood, TX; a daughter, Patricia J. Carnago of Mattawan, MI; and a brother, James A. Etterbeek of Midland Park, NJ. She also leaves four grandchildren, Naomi and Sofia Varnis, Mackenzie and Zach Carnago, whom she adored. The family would like to thank the staff of Park Bend Health Center and Odyssey Hospice of Austin for the care they provided. Also, many thanks to the members and staff of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Portage, MI for fellowship and help over the years. A memorial service to celebrate Muriel's life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:30-11:00 AM and immediately following the service during a reception luncheon at the Westside Chapel. Muriel had special compassion for wounded military service
veterans. She surely would appreciate any memorial
contribution to organizations that assist those who have sacrificed so much for us. Memorials in Muriel's memory may be directed to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, One Intrepid Square, West 46th Street & 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036
