Kalamazoo, MI On Friday, December 6, 2013, Mildred Mae Craven was called to her Heavenly Home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on August 12, 1923 in Catawba County, NC the daughter of the late Arthur O. and Gertrude Starnes Hefner. Mildred was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and taught music in Morganton, NC in the early 1940s. Mildred married George W. Craven on June 28, 1946 and moved to his hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. They raised a family of four children and were active in their church community. Mildred served in several churches as the pianist and Sunday School teacher. She was also teacher at Amberly School Portage Public Schools for 18 years. She was preceded in death by her husband George November 15, 2008. She was also preceded by a sister, Betty Fowler of Hickory NC. Mildred is survived by her children, Marcia Gerald Pustelnik of Sturgis, MI, Sharon Richard Dodson of Comstock, MI, Brian Lynne Craven of Portage and Carol Robert Dullam of Kalamazoo; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Carolyn Hefner, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held later. For those who desire, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the charity of one's choice.
