MAXSON, Marylin J.
Galesburg, MI Marylin Jo Maxson née Hoag quietly passed away in Battle Creek, MI, on Saturday, November 29, 2014, after a three-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Her beloved husband of 58 years was with her when she passed. Marylin was born on March 17th, 1937 in Battle Creek to Wendell and Edna Farman Hoag. She grew up in Climax and Galesburg, and graduated valedictorian from Galesburg-Augusta High School, class of 1955. Marylin worked as a bookkeeper for multiple area businesses, including Hickory Management of Portage and the Kay Maxson Agency Inc, where she served as secretary and treasurer for several years. She always had a song in her heart, and served as an organist in local churches and accompanied the Galesburg-Augusta High School choir. Along with her husband, Marylin was a consummate nature enthusiast. They wiled away many days gardening and campinga"hobbies which they enjoyed sharing with their grandchildren. During her later years, Marylin's grandchildren would consume much of her attention. Grandma's Taxi Service was always available to drive to the library, music lessons, play and dance rehearsals, summer camps, and scouting events. On most Friday and Saturday nights, she could be found in the seats of a stadium, gym or auditorium, cheering them on. She baked cookies to help study for college exams and cakes to feed entire dance companies. Pursuant with her interest in the future and education of our local youth, her remains have been donated to the Western Michigan University School of Medicine. Marylin was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Kay, of Galesburg; her sister, Carolyn Hugh Bradley, of Fairfield, CA; her two children: Lisa Maxson, of Climax; and Jeff Donna Maxson, of Battle Creek; and her four grandchildren: Kyle Wilson, of Baltimore, MD; Kaylin Wilson Andrew Miller of Durango, CO; Jacob Maxson of Oxford, OH; and Kaylee Maxson of Battle Creek.
