Mary Jane (Keller) Meier

December 3, 1920 — December 11, 2020

Frankfort

Mary Jane Meier, 100, of Kalamazoo, MI and formerly of Detroit and Frankfort, MI passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020. She was born on December 3, 1920 to Paul and Olga Keller in Detroit, MI, the younger of two children. She attended Hillsdale College where she joined the Pi Beta Phi sorority in which she was an active member until her death. She transferred to the University of Michigan where she graduated with a BS in Math and also met her husband, Carl, on a blind date. They were married in Detroit on June 12, 1943 and enjoyed over 67 years of marriage. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family first of all and her second love was to play golf which she did into her 90s. She also loved to read, play cards, do crossword and other word puzzles and to crochet blankets for all her grand and great grandchildren. Her favorite place to be was at the family cottage on Crystal Lake where she had been going since she was 5 years old. She will be lovingly missed by her four children, Carl Jr. (LuAnn) of Green Valley, AZ, Christine (William) Bussell of Grand Haven, MI, Susan (James) Young of Kalamazoo, MI and John (Agi) of San Anselmo, CA; eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl, her brother, Paul Jr., three brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law. A celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2021. We, her children, are so appreciative of the loving care she received at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. Memorial gifts may be made to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (GTRLC.org).
