Rudolf and Martha Weber
Together in life and now together forever.
Rudolf, March 5, 1933 to February 5, 2022
Martha, May 11, 1931 to February 7, 2022
After immigrating to the United States from Germany separately in 1952, Rudi and Martha met at a German club in Toledo and love happened. Following Rudi's service in the Army as an MP in the Korean War, they were united in marriage on December 3, 1955. This loving bond lasted a lifetime and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Rudi and Martha made their home in Dearborn Heights, MI for 58 years and raised 2 daughters, Margit (Paul) Doelle of Clarkston, MI and Monika (Joseph) Barker of Kalamazoo, MI.
Rudi was employed by the Sheet Metal Workers Local 80 for nearly 40 years and was a proud Union member for nearly 70 years.
Martha's greatest joy was taking care of her family and all who came into her home. Her cooking was legendary, serving many authentic German dishes and baked goods.
Retirement years were spent in Naples, Florida as "snowbirds" where they enjoyed a new circle of friends and activities.
They were lovingly called "Oma" and "Opa" by 5 grandchildren, Sean (Adrienne) Doelle, Ryan (Ashley) Doelle, Sara Doelle (Steve Grapsas), Dayna (Erik) Anderson and Brandon (Melany) Kaufman. They were also loved by 8 great-grandchildren, Gianna, Isabel, Drew, Juliet, Olivia, Lyla, Brody and Luna.
Rudi and Martha moved permanently to Kalamazoo in 2013 and were able to explore the west side of the state. Many day trips were made to enjoy the shores of Lake Michigan at South Haven.
Martha is survived by two brothers and four sisters and preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Rudi is preceded in death by one brother. They are also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, both in the United States and Germany.
Rudy and Martha were a true testament to what the "Greatest Generation" achieved. They touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place and the family will have a celebration of their life at a future date.
"Aufwiedersehn", until we meet again.
