Mark Longanecker, age 73, passed away Sunday evening, January 30th, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family, after a lengthy battle with metastatic prostate cancer.
Mark was born August 3rd,1948 in Kalamazoo and was the son of Marion and Eileen (Smith) Longanecker. He was a proud Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Anchorage. His ship was an integral part of getting troops home safely. Mark worked for 35 years in the paper industry, primarily in the Midwest region. He loved the music of the 1960's, especially the Beatles. Mark loved working in the yard and took great pride in his home. He had the gift of gab, was good natured, humorous, and was a Euchre extraordinaire.
On January 20th, 1968, Mark was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen (Vincent) and they shared 54 years of marriage. Mark had such great love for his son Matthew, and he took great care and pride in setting up Matthew's, forever home.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Karen and their beloved son Matthew. Mark is also survived by sister-in-law Marcia (Marv) Schultz and nephew Marc (Ann Lion) Luoma. Mark is survived by many lifelong friends, many of which were daily contact with him (Tom S., Louis B). He will be missed and remembered by those who knew him, particularly his friends of many years.
A memorial gathering and fellowship will be held from 12:00-3:00pm Monday, February, 7th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. Memorials may be directed to ARC Community Advocates.
