GUTHAUS, Mrs. Margaret D.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday morning August 18, 2013, at The Springs of Kalamazoo. Margaret was born June 14, 1926 in Weston, West Virginia, the first daughter of N. Bradley and Lucinda M. Strother Dawson. She graduated from Lindblom High School and Morgan Park Junior College in the Chicago area. Then wanting to be a journalist, she attended the University Of Missouri School Of Journalism. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1961 and was employed with the Kalamazoo Gazette for 26 years before retiring. Margaret was a member of Calvary Bible Church. Margaret also enjoyed traveling, and was a lifetime member of the National Press Women, serving as its Past President of the Michigan state chapter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin R. Guthaus on January 15, 2010; and a son, David Bradley Guthaus on August 13, 1985. She is survived by 3 children, Mark Beth Guthaus of Kalamazoo, Paul Cindy Guthaus of Lansing, MI, and Peggy Rocco Barbetta of Saugerties, NY; one daughter-in-law Paula Don Ruthven of Scotts; 8 grandchildren; Matt Guthaus Kristin Simmonson of San Francisco, Liz Kent Will of Kentwood, Jason Erica Guthaus of Orlando, Florida, Michelle Guthaus of Kalamazoo, Erik Kristen Guthaus of Lansing, SP4 Kirk Stephanie Fort Bragg, SC, LCPL Patrick Guthaus, Camp Pendleton, CA and Michael Guthaus and Golde Barbetta of NY; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura "Betty" Richard Turnbow of Dallas, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at the Fountains 1700 Bronson Way, Kalamazoo, MI, on August 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm. There will be no visitation, a private burial service will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Loaves and Fishes.
