VELS, LANDON A. Anneke Vels age 17 and Landon Vels age 13, were escorted in the arms of Jesus who lead them from their earthly home to their heavenly home on December 3rd, 2013. Anneke was born October 22, 1996 and Landon was born April 27, 2000, in Kalamazoo the children of Peter and Laura Stantz Vels. Both attended Heritage Christian Academy where they were devoted students who were involved in the school music ministries, art and soccer. Both were members of Calvary Bible Church actively serving in the youth and music ministries and faithfully involved in bible study. Surviving are their parents, Peter and Laura Vels; brother, Jonathan Vels; grandparents, John and Ida Vels, Carolyn and Lewis Bont, Cliff and Cathy Stantz; aunt, Sharon Vels and Tim Dykstra; uncle, Gerard Vels; cousins Ben, Bradi and Noah Dykstra, Alex Dykstra and Garrett Vels; and numerous other family and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 6th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A service to celebrate Anneke's and Landon's lives will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 7th at Calvary Bible Church 855 S. Drake Rd with Rev. Dr. John Barnett officiating. A private family interment will be held in Liberty Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials in their memory may be directed to a scholarship fund at Heritage Christian Academy.
