MAHIEU, KENNETH AL, JR.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Kenneth Al Mahieu, Jr., age 62, passed away suddenly October 2, 2013 in Elk Rapids, MI. Al was born November 29, 1950 in Kalamazoo, the son of Kenneth A. and Violet A. Miller Mahieu, Sr. After four years in the U.S. Air Force he found his calling to be a fireman. He retired from the fire department as an equipment operator after 23 years with the City of Kalamazoo; and served 10 years as a volunteer fireman for Northwood. On May 19, 1978, he was united in marriage to Barbara Orr Mahieu who survives. Also surviving are their three daughters, Laura Brad Echtinaw, Lisa Ryan Volkers and Lindsey Keith II Nass; five grandchildren, Ethan, Alayna, Jack, Peighton and Brielle; his mother, Violet Mahieu; his siblings, Marty Jenny Mahieu, Ruth Bill Toornman, Virginia Chip Mongreig, Barbara Ed Ott and Teresa Randol; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth A. Mahieu, Sr. in 2011 and by a brother-in-law, Donnie Randol. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 6th from 4-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, October 7th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church 1628 East G Ave. with Father James O'Leary presiding. Military and Fire Department honors will follow services at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Al's memory be directed to Schoolcraft Cub Scouts Pack #250; Schoolcraft Boy Scouts Troop #254; or St. Ambrose Church Food Lift Program.
