Kenneth Dewayne Edson

April 21, 1936 — January 18, 2016

There is one less life light and one brighter star in the heavens now. Kenneth Dewayne Edson lost his battle with cancer on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence at age 79. Ken was born April 21, 1936, the son of the late, Andrew and Edith (Blodgett) Edson of Otsego, Michigan. He was preceded by his older brother, Robert Edson.

Ken was a graduate of Otsego High School Class of 1954 and served this country in the United State Air Force. After serving overseas in England, Ken returned home where he married his beautiful bride Carolyn Ann (Johnson) Edson on August 23, 1958. Ken and Carolyn raised their three wonderful children, Steven Wayne Edson, Karen Ann Taylor, and Pamela M. Donohue. Ken was overjoyed when he was blessed with his two grandchildren, Sean and Jennifer Donohue whom both became the apple of their grandpa's eye from the day he first saw them.

Ken found his true passion was living and enjoying his home on Gourdeneck Lake with his family. Ken and Carol both loved all aspects of living on the lake where they raised their children.

After "retirement" from Ronningen-Petter, Portage, Michigan, Ken kept very busy as an independent inspector. Ken and Carolyn both loved to travel. They occasionally pack their truck to the brim with clothing, toys, and household items gathered by the Pathfinders Church in Portage, Michigan and delivered the items to the Red Bird Mission located in the hills of Kentucky.

Ken was never one to candy coat anything. Those that knew him, understood this and respected him for his candor. Ken always took care of his family through any situation. His strength was true. His dedication was evident. His love for his family was always apparent.

Visitation will be Monday, January 25, 2016 at Pathfinders Church, 8740 S. Westnedge, Portage, MI 49002 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. There will be a luncheon served at the church following the funeral. Ken will be taken to his final resting place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. The graveside service is at 2:30 p.m. Those that wish to continue on to the graveside service are welcome to follow. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel.

Our family would like to give our love and many thanks to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence for all that they did to make this difficult time easier. They were truly heaven sent from the day we walked in the door.

Memorial contributions may be given to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
