ABBOTT, KENNETH L.
GALESBURG Ken passed away Monday morning, May 4, 2015 at Stonebridge Adult Foster Care in Bellevue. He was born on February 16, 1922 in Reading, MI, the son of the late Benjamin and Gladys Childs Abbott. Ken was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. On September 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Alice M. Clawson. Ken was employed by James River Paper Co. for 34 years until his retirement and was a life member of the Augusta VFW Post #7956. Surviving are wife of 67 years, Alice Abbott; their four children, Beverly Larry Nicklin Gilchrist of Kalamazoo, James Brenda Abbott of Florida, Linda Bill Buckmaster of Florida, and Martin Dona Abbott of Wayland; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Boatman-Morkel of Mesa, AZ, and Veleda Clare of St. Angelo, TX; sister-in-law, Jean Abbott of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his two sisters, Irene Baker and Helen Baker; and three brothers, Floyd, Keith and Elson Abbott. A service with military honors will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 8, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be directed to Augusta VFW Post #7956.
