Passed away suddenly on Tuesday March 20, 2018, due to injuries received in an automobile accident. Juan was born in McAllen, Texas on March 22, 1951, while Mary was born in Kalamazoo on October 17, 1955. They were united in marriage on July 1, 1972. Juan was employed as a Systems Technician with AT&T, retiring after thirty four years of service. They were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. They are survived by four children, Juan J. (Cristin) Muniz of Portage, Luchana Muniz of Kalamazoo, Kristina (Trumaine) Coleman of Kalamazoo and Alicia (Will) Schaefer of Portage; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; Mary's father, Luciano Hernandez; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Lou (Diana) Hernandez, Joseph (Beverly) Hernandez, Jesse Hernandez, Susan Welch, Raymond (Chari) Muniz, Ruben (Elida) Muniz, Amelia (Richard) Eaton, Mary Mason, Elizabeth "Betty" Muniz, Delia Sanchez, Raul (Elida) Muniz and Tina Howard. They were preceded in death by Mary's mother, Elvira Reno Hernandez and Juan's father and mother, Chris Muniz and Delfina Rodriguez Muniz; and Juan's siblings, Ismael Muniz, Fita Gonzales. Friends may visit the family from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, with cremation to follow after the Mass.Msgr. Michael Hazard will officiate the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Michigan Chapter.
