John Theodore "Ted" Zemek passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Kalamazoo at the age of 86. Ted was born on June 25, 1930 in Chicago, IL the only child of the late John and Lillian (Kubita) Zemek, Sr. Ted excelled in athletics throughout his life with a passion for basketball. He also obtained his private pilot's license and followed his love for flying. He was an avid golfer, bowler and enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan in the summers in South Haven. His pride and love for his grandchildren was apparent with endless hours spent at ball fields and hockey rinks. Soon after college he began a long career in the manufacturing field as a Sales Manager. After retiring he settled down in the Scotts/Vicksburg area where he is a parishioner at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. On November 9, 1957 John married his love Ellen Kempa, who just recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are three children, David (Marilyn) Zemek of Palm Desert, CA, Nancy (Scott) Muffley of Portage, MI and Michael (Laura) Zemek of Lowell, MI; and four grandchildren, Jordyn & Josie Muffley and Blake & Josh Zemek. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 on Friday morning, January 27, 2017 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Vicksburg, 5855 East W Avenue, with Msgr. Thomas Martin, presider. Memorials may be directed to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.
