Smoke, John "Jack" Savory
of Portage, Michigan Passed away at his home on Monday, March 24, 2014. 86 years. Jack was born in Upland, CA on September 15, 1927, the son of the late Clarence Roy Smoke and Leona Grace Savory Smoke. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was employed by KVP Southerland for many years as well as Star Steel for 19 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he served as an usher. He served as a Docent at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Instrument Petting Zoo. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Lou Glendenning Smoke; two children, Linda Lou Ronald W. Fredricksen of Portage and Daniel Duane Christian of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Heather Stephen Schaefer, Jon Roberts, Christopher Christian and Darron Duane Christian; four great-granddaughters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 West Lovell St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The Rev. Dr. Randall Warren will officiate. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, First Church of Christ Scientist, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts or the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Instrument Petting Zoo.
