LANCASTER, John "Jack"
of Kalamazoo, Michigan John M. "Jack" Lancaster; age 83, passed away April 17, 2012 in Kalamazoo. Jack was born April 10, 1929, in Kalamazoo, the son of Maurice and Naomi Sergeant Lancaster and has been a lifelong Kalamazoo resident. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and attended WMU. For 17 years he was employed as a traffic analyst with New York Central Railroad and then for 25 years with James River Corp. where he retired from. Jack was a longtime active member of the Westwood United Methodist Church where he coached boys and girls basketball, was a Junior MYF leader and had served on various committees throughout the years. He had also volunteered as a Little League coach. On June 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Helen Amann Lancaster, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Marianne Lancaster of Kalamazoo and Julie Lancaster of Kalamazoo. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and by a daughter, Brenda Kay Lancaster in 1982. A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held 11:00AM Saturday, April 21 at Westwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Wayne Price officiating. Interment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-11AM at the church. Memorials in Jack's memory may be directed to Westwood United Methodist Church or the SPCA of SW Michigan.
