Kurbis, Joanne "Jo" Mary
Of Kalamazoo
Passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the age of 72. Jo was born in Benton Harbor in July 21, 1943, the daughter of the late Karl and Mary (Cole) Maikowski. She retired from Flowserve in 2006. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She volunteered for many organizations including March of Dimes, United Way of Kalamazoo, Relay for Life, and Corporate Olympics. Among her hobbies, she especially enjoyed crafting and cheering on all the kids at sporting events. She was married to Adolph Kurbis on January 12, 1963; he preceded her in death on November 29, 1983. Jo is survived by one son and two daughters, Robert (Carla) Kurbis, Karyn (Brian) Spry and Julie (Tim) Brown; six grandchildren, Madison, Mallory, Spencer, Tommy, Sami and Jayden; two sisters, Carol (Ernie) Andres and Janie (Jon) Durren; one sister-in-law, Anne Kurbis and one brother-in-law, Herbert Reimers; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2nd at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 3rd at the funeral chapel. Private interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. Memorial contributions may be given to Toys for Tots or SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
