Jerome Steven Buchanan

Jerome S. Buchanan, age 62 of Mattawan, died October 18, 2021. He was born July 27, 1959, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Marvin and Jannie (Morgan) Buchanan. Jerome was a 1978 graduate of Lawrence High School. He served as a career Intelligence Analyst for the U.S. Army National Guard, until retiring in 2003. Jerome was an auto body mechanic with the City of Kalamazoo and Metro Transit for many years. He retired in February of 2021 as a Union Rep and Contract Negotiator for AFSCME Council 25. On June 30, 1984, he married Patsy Cargo. Time with his family was very important to Jerome and he was often found BBQing for friends and family who gathered at his home. He enjoyed fishing and camping. A friend to all, Jerome was generous with his time and his friendship. His family includes his wife Patsy Buchanan; his children: Michelle (Demetrius) Johnson, Jessica Buchanan, and Jarrett (Corey Skartsiaris) Buchanan; his grandchildren: Byron, Amir, Nathanial, Cam'ron, Devon, Andrue, Owen, and Jalyn; his great-grandchildren: Laila and Byron; his sisters: Linda (Steven) Redmond and Garrie (David) Smith; his brother Timothy Fennessee; Tina Fennessee and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Jannie Buchanan. Friends may visit with his family on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM.
