James Homer Libbey

June 28, 1947 — February 4, 2018

Passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the age of 70. James was born in Durand, MI on June 28, 1947, the son of the late James Libbey and Lillian (Wilhelm) Libbey. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War, receiving two Purple Hearts. He was employed as a truck driver for over thirty years. He was an avid music lover and enjoyed playing the guitar, harmonica & keyboard. He also enjoyed fishing and trips to the casino. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Nancy (Trainer) Libbey; children, Marjory (Greg) Thompson, James (Loretta) Keller, Connie Auten, Robert Pillars, Kristal (Jon) Smith and Tiffany McDaniel; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother; his caretaker and nephew, Robert Hansen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Lillian Libbey; his sister, Virginia "Ginny" Libbey; and his mother-in-law, Marge Trainer. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2017 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., where the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 9th. A graveside service with military honors will follow in Portage South Cemetery.
