GARBER, Jacob Allen
of Portage, Michigan Jacob, 14, of Portage, MI, died at his home on December 3, 2013. The cause of death was suicide. Jacob was born December 19, 1998 in Kalamazoo, MI to Amy and David Garber. He attended Waylee and Portage Central Elementary Schools, Jerling Jr. High School Orland Park, IL, Portage Central Middle School, and Portage Central High School. Jacob was an active and engaged young man. Jacob excelled at most things he tried. He was a superb academic student. He was also adept at any sport he picked up. He loved playing basketball, golf, tennis, and skiing. Jacob was a great brother, son, and friend. He had a magnetic personality, which gave him a unique ability to get along with everyone he encountered. He was caring, thoughtful, helpful, and adventurous. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was always available with a hug and a warm smile. Jacob was loved and cherished by his family and friends. He will be missed immensely. His spirit will live on in those he touched. Jacob is survived by his mother, Amy; brothers, Michael, 25, and Lawrence, 23; sister, Emily, 17; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. He is preceded in death by his father, David, who died of cancer in 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th at Lake Center Bible Church, 805 E. Osterhout Ave., Portage, with Pastor Mark Vanderson of Southridge Reformed Church officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Migraine Foundation and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
