Portage Went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2010. She was born January 29, 1934 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Ben and Katherine East. She worked for Allied Paper, Gibson Guitar and ran a daycare in her home for many years. She was a member of First Assembly of God for 25 years and is a current member of the Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene. Gladys enjoyed family sporting events, crocheting afghans and baby blankets, singing for weddings, funerals and church choirs, until asthma prevented her from singing. Her family was her pride and joy. On May 12, 1950, she married Henry E. Wise, who survives. Gladys is also survived by their children, Deb Nault and Mike Cherrie Wise; grandchildren, Michael S. Miller of Denver, CO, Jessica Amey and Christopher Massey, Michelle and Brian Wise, all of Portage; a daughter-in-law, Dona Bill Lasinski & family; brothers, Walt Marilyn East and Don Diane East; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Henry C. Wise, a grandson, Thomas Ryan Miller, a brother, Robert East and a sister Berneice Allen. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene, 5625 Oakland Dr., with Rev. Jeff McVay officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and at the church on Thursday beginning at 12:00 Noon. Memorial donations may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
