Formerly of Kalamazoo On Sunday, December 28, 2014, Gladys went home to be with the Lord. She was born September 2, 1918 in Chicago Heights, IL, the daughter of the late Carl T. and Nina A. Wagner Sweet. She had been a Kalamazoo resident until moving to Coldwater in 1998. She was a member of the Coldwater Wesleyan Church and a previous member of the Kalamazoo Wesleyan Church and was very active in both churches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A., a son, Thomas L. Gorton, a grandson, Michael W. Rose and a son-in-law, Lawrence Woodhams. On March 8, 1941, she was united in marriage to Wayne A. Gorton. Gladys is survived by her four children, Beth Jim Rose of Kalamazoo, Linda Woodhams of Coldwater, Diane David Tanis of Portage and Stephen Lori Gorton of Otsego; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; a sister, Anna Jean Sweet Baumeister of Union City, MI; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Rev. Bruce Howell, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lighthouse Community Church or the charity of one's choice.
