HENSON, Garry C.
Age 51
of Galesburg, Michigan After a tough battle with cancer the Lord called Garry home on October 4, 2011. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side. Garry loved living in Galesburg, his childhood home, and spent his life making the town a better place to live. Garry was born on February 24th, 1960. He graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 1978 and married his high school sweetheart, Dawn Lockwood on October 20, 1979. Garry was a faithful and dedicated husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Dawn; daughters, Tara and Heidi Brett Kimble; son, Derek Jamie and future granddaughter, Alivia; father, David Libby and mother, Patricia Stratton; sisters, Kim Wally Corwin, Cindy Ingraham, Michelle Chris Elsey, Angela Swarms; brothers, Dave Nancy Henson, Don Lockwood, Mike Lockwood. Garry had many step sisters and brothers and was loved by many nieces and nephews. Garry's other love was being a member of the Galesburg-Charleston Fire Dept. and considered his fellow firefighters his family. He joined the Fire Dept. in 1980 where he served as a firefighter, Captain and Fire Chief. Garry worked at Pfizer water department since 1982. He was also owner and realtor at Firehouse Real Estate. Served on the planning commission, city commission and later served as Mayor of Galesburg. Garry was fundamental in getting the Marines to build the city park. Garry enjoyed the outdoors and especially deer hunting where he would proudly tell you he hadn't missed a season in 35 years. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Liepman, Liz, Zelda and staff of the Cancer Center, Pam and Darcy of Hospice and family and friends who pulled together in Galesburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for medical and funeral expenses; any extra will be donated back to the GCFD. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek Street. A service to celebrate Garry's life will be held 11:00am Saturday, October 8th at Haven Church 5350 North Sprinkle Road. Interment will follow in Roof Cemetery.
