SWINEHART, Freda C.
of Kalamazoo Went to be with her Lord, Tuesday November 22, 2011. Freda was born December 24, 1917 in Dorr, MI the daughter of Edward and Anna Arndt Engel. She was united in marriage to Earl Edward Swinehart at 11:30pm on June 27, 1942 in the state of Washington. They were married for 25 years before his death in 1967. Freda remained living in the house they had built together for the next 43 years. During the last 18 months preceding her death, Freda was in the loving hands and care of the Alamo Nursing Home staff. Freda was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was involved in many activities over the years. She loved her family, traveling, dancing, and going for long rides-always ending with a hot fudge sundae. She is survived by her children, Ronald and Linda Swinehart; her grand-daughter, Kris Cross Nathan Lee; 3 great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Mercedes, and Cameron Cross; and many in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; and her brother, Carl Engel. Services will be held at 11:00 o'clock Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3000 West Main St., with Pastor David Sidwell officiating. Friends may meet the family Friday from 4-7pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street and from 10-11:00 Saturday at the church. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
