LAVENDER, Evelyn F.
Of Kalamazoo Evelyn passed away Monday evening, February 28, 2011 at the Laurels of Bedford. She was born February 18, 1934 in Flowerfield, MI, the daughter of Walter and Grace Terry Sweet. Evelyn enjoyed cooking, reading, and laughing. She was employed by both the Hilton and Radisson hotels as a chef for many years until her retirement. Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles Lavender in 1957; her parents, one grandson, Mark Lavender; and one brother, Carl Sweet. Surviving are her two children, Carol Playford of Battle Creek and Donald Connie Lavender of Hickory Corners; four grandchildren, L.J. Playford of Kalamazoo, Susan Playford of Kalamazoo, David Melissa Lavender of Prairieville, and Amy Matt Carpenter of Grand Rapids; one brother, Edward Sweet of Florida and multiple great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Evelyn will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue, with Rev. James Dyke officiating, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
