VAIRO, Dorothy E.
of St. Ignace and Portage, MI Dorothy E. Vairo of St. Ignace and Portage, Michigan passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May, 3 2011. She was born on September 27, 1916 in Mohawk, Michigan, to William John and Maud nee Nettle Phillips and graduated from Calumet High School. She resided in St. Ignace from 1945 until 2002. While living in St. Ignace with her husband Joseph, who owned Vairo Insurance Agency, she enjoyed many friendships and was active in community affairs and school activities of their three children. In retirement Dorothy and Joe enjoyed traveling and being at their cabin on West US 2. In 2002 Dorothy moved to Portage, MI to be closer to her daughter. She resided at Crossroads Village for eight years before moving to Wynwood Assisted Living Facility. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, a sister Winifred Renowden and a brother Frederick Phillips. She is survived by her daughters JoAnne Brown of Marquette, MI, Mary Kaye and her husband Harry Bird of Portage MI, a son Mike and his wife Pam of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Angeline Phillips of Marquette. Dorothy has seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on July 8 at 1:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace, Michigan.
