Dorothy L. "Dort" Potgiesser

POTGIESSER, Dorothy L. "Dort"
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Dorothy "Dort" L. Potgiesser, age 92, passed away Monday evening at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born August 25, 1922 in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of David and Nellie Newhouse Santman and had been a lifelong area resident. Dorothy was a member of Bethany Reformed Church and was once active with the Women's Guild, Evening Circle and choir. She and her husband also were volunteers with Loaves and Fishes. On March 15, 1947, Dorothy married Richard Potgiesser who preceded her in death on August 31, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Donald, Gerald and Nelson Santman. Dorothy is survived by: three children and their spouses, Dennis Donna Potgiesser of Kalamazoo, Sharon Timm Corstange of Portage and Susan Roger Effner of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren Adam Shannon Potgiesser, Melissa Effner, Marcie Mike DiGiovanni, Matthew Effner and Michelle Stephen Dykstra; seven great-grandchildren, Faith and Hope Potgiesser, Jonathan and Juliana Dykstra, Ryan and Austin Effner, and Peyton DiGiovanni; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held 11:00 Friday morning at the funeral home with Rev. Fritz Kruithof, officiating. Private interment will be held in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Bethany Reformed Church. Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff of Dussia House and Rose Arbor Hospice Residence for their compassionate care and kindness.
