Doris Ann Simmons, age 85, passed away early Wednesday evening, July 28, 2021 at the Heritage Upjohn Nursing Care following a 5-year battle with dementia. Doris was born on July 27, 1936 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Foote) Kuiper. She was a 1954 graduate of Portage Central High School. On February 25, 1956, Doris was united in marriage to David W. Simmons. She was a homemaker for many years and had worked for over 35 years in several of the local Portage greenhouses.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband David Simmons in 2015; by her parents and her brother Jack. Surviving are her two children, Doug (Jennifer) Simmons of Schoolcraft and Deb (Ron) Bailey of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Dustin (Anica) Simmons, Stephanie (Dan) Baugher and Jamie Bailey as well as three great-grandchildren; and two sisters Nancy and Linda.

Friends and family may visit Doris's family from 12pm-2pm on Tuesday, August 3rd, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 411 E. Centre Avenue, where a funeral service to celebrate her life will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Portage South Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Heritage Community of Kalamazoo.
