Passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017, at age 93. Charles was born in Decatur, Ind., on November 23, 1923, the son of the late Marion B. Large and Mary (Winans) Large. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He graduated from Kalamazoo College. He retired from The Upjohn Company after 39 years of service and was a recipient of the W.E. Upjohn Award. He was a devoted member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church for more than 80 years. Charles was married to Wilda Hemenway Large, who preceded him in death in 1984. He is survived by one step-son, Michael (Gail) Galbreath of Kalamazoo, and one step-daughter, Kathleen (Mark) McGregor of Naples, Fla.; three step-grandchildren, Cara (Keith) Tonn of Roseville, Mich., Patrick (Megan) Yankee of Kalamazoo and Christopher (Jenny) Yankee of The Woodlands,Texas; five step-great-grandchildren; a number of cousins, and long-time friend Lola Boussom. Charles was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and William B. Overholt. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 W. Lovell St., Kalamazoo, with The Rev. Dr. Randall R. Warren officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel.
