Kalamazoo, MI Carl E Lee, age 96, passed away on Sunday morning, February 22, 2015 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. He was born on Thursday, November 7, 1918 in Reading, MI a son of the late Berten "Bert" Henry and Mary Nash Lee. He attended the Michigan Academy of Radio Service and spent 60 years in the radio and broadcasting industry. In the late 1930's Carl met E. Winifred "Winnie" Fulton and on October 12, 1940 they were married. Carl and Winnie were members of Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church. In addition to being President and CEO of Fetzer Broadcasting Company, Carl headed up six other CBS affiliates across the country and served on the board of directors for CBS Affiliates, BMI, First National Bank Corporation, Michigan Association of Broadcasters, WMU Foundation, Bronson Hospital Foundation, Broadcast Pioneers and the Detroit Tigers. Carl and Winnie are Honorary Alumni of Western Michigan University and the benefactors of the Carl and Winifred Lee Honors College of Western Michigan University. Carl and Winnie enjoyed travelling while working on Carl's businesses and they enjoyed spending their winters in Naples, FL and summers in Kalamazoo. They were members of the Kalamazoo Country Club, The Park Club and Bear's Paw Country Club in Naples. Carl also enjoyed leading his business groups on fishing trips for over 50 years. Carl was a 32nd degree Mason and was also a member of the Lion's Club. Winnie preceded Carl in death on October 23, 2012. Carl was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Fred and Wilford. Carl is survived by a daughter, Cheri Jeff Weedman of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren, Carl Lee Weedman of Chicago, IL and Tatiana Eloise Weedman of Cincinnati, OH; a sister-in-law, Doris Lee of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. A private funeral service was held and burial has taken place. A public memorial service will be held at 10:30 Saturday morning, March 14, 2015 at the Carl and Winifred Lee Honors College on the campus of Western Michigan University.
