CPT. Drew Russell
of Scotts, Michigan Drew Russell, 25, was killed-in-action in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan on October 8, 2011 while serving with the 1st squadron, 10th CAV, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th ID. Drew was born on March 20, 1986 in Warren, MI, and moved to Scotts with his family in 1988. He was a 2004 graduate of Vicksburg High School and a 2008 graduate of Western Michigan University's ROTC program with distinguished military honors. Drew was promoted early to captain and a highly decorated soldier who served honorably until his passing. Drew was a wonderful, loving and humorous son, brother and grandson. Drew was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Hiddings and Charles Moore; and uncle, Michael Hiddings. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Patti Russell of Scotts; his brother and sister-in-law, Jimi and Jill Russell Steeby of Murfreesboro, TN; grandmother, Mary Jane Moore of Scotts, grandparents, Marie Hiddings and Edwin Wiegand of Port Sanilac, MI; his beloved sweetheart, Sarah "Tootie" Pfeiffer and their dog, Peanut of Colorodo Springs, CO; Sarah's parents, Jeff and Randi Pfeiffer of Longmont, CO; aunts and uncles, Sue and Mark Molinelli, Robert and Kathy Hiddings, Janean and Mike Monahan, Bill and Adele Russell, Nancy Hiddings-Ryskewicz and Joe and Ada Russell; cousins, Rick and Angie DeClaire, Cara Hiddings and family, Derek and Melissa, DeClaire, Van Ryan Ryskewicz, Joanna Russell, Matthew Monahan, Joey Russell, Erin and Kerrie Monahan and Michael and Jonathan Hiddings; several second cousins; his "bubbas" the soldiers under his command and an army of friends. He will truly be eternally loved and missed by all who knew him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 o'clock Thursday, October 20, at the St. Martin Catholic Church, 5855 East W Ave, with Fr. Chris Ankley, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Vicksburg Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 6-8pm and Wednesday from 11-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256; or the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
