MASON, BRENDA SUE

Vivacious, generous, and loyal. These are but few of the words to describe our beautiful Brenda Sue Mason (née Yeast) who left this earth on October 31, 2016, surrounded by her beloved family. Brenda was born to Minor and Amelia (Meeks) Yeast on March 13, 1946 in Battle Creek, MI and spent her youth in Augusta, Michigan, graduating from Galesburg-Augusta High School. She was a life-long resident of Kalamazoo County and retired as the Office Manager from Magnuson Dental Design in 2013 after 40 dedicated years. She and her husband Randy Mason, who survives her, enjoyed their retirement winters in Port Charlotte, Florida, where they found leisurely living under the Florida sun and where they adopted their rescue dog, Sally. Brenda and Randy had 41 years of loving and adventurous marriage.

Brenda's grown children Lisa Bailey (Richard Browne), Kari (Mark) Brummel and David (Jennifer) Mason acutely grieve her loss but find comfort in their children, who called her "Nana". Jordan, Haylee, Bailey, Sophie, Irie, David Jr., Cameron and Elise cherish the memories of their Nana as she was the epitome of the doting grandmother. But "grandmother" was not a moniker that fit her youthful energy and enthusiasm for life. She traded fashion tips and iTunes with her grandchildren; she helped her daughters redecorate their homes; she celebrated Big Birthdays at Disney World and willingly partook of the most challenging rides; she was an enthusiastic Wolverine and Tigers fan. Her parties were legend and she had a gift of making everyone feel welcome in and out of her home.

Brenda's family was the center of her life and she bestowed her loving care onto both of her parents, her sister Rosalyn Champion, and her brother Jerry Yeast, in their last days before they preceded her in death. Her brothers-in-law Mark Champion, Bill (Ruth) Mason and Rick (Nancy) Mason and sisters-in-law Mary Yeast and Karen Scarbrough survive her. Brenda felt fortunate and blessed to have two sets of parental in-laws: Vern and Helen Mason and Oakley and Natalie Bailey. They also precede her in death. Her ex-husband Norm Bailey and his wife Carol remain a part of her family and survive her.

While we have lost her physical presence, we are left with the bright image of her infectious, brilliant smile, her ability to wear orange as if she had captured part of the sun, and her OPI Cajun Shrimp toenail polish flashing itself from her ubiquitous flip flops.

The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 4:00PM on Monday, November 7th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street; where a service to celebrate Brenda's life will begin at 4:00 PM Monday with Pastor Toby Gruppen officiating. Memorials in Brenda's memory may be directed to Young Life (Checks made out to "Young Life" with "MI-23 Jordan Palladino" in the memo line).
