HATTON, Bonita J.
of Richland Bonita Jean Hatton, 87, died of natural causes the afternoon of July 12th at the UpJohn Community Care Center in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Hatton was born April 6th, 1923 in Delton, Michigan to the late Edward L. and Frances Veenhuis Bromley and was a graduate of Delton High School. The former Bonita Jean Bromley was married February 11th, 1943 to Norman L. Hatton, an Army staff sergeant then stationed at Ft. Custer military base in Battle Creek whom preceded her in death in 1995. After Mr. Hatton's term of combat service in Europe during World War II, the couple settled and became lifelong residents of Richland, Michigan, raising four sons. Mrs. Hatton was a 30 year retiree of the Gull Lake School system. She particularly loved her 26 years as a school bus driver. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her later years Bonita became a devoted Detroit Tigers and Pistons fan, rarely missing a game on TV or Radio, relishing in their achievements and commiserating their setbacks, as true fans do. She will be lovingly remembered by her family as a woman who worked tirelessly toward the betterment of her family and friends, and one whom lived a long, rewarding and loved-filled life. She is survived by her sons Kendall Paula Hatton of Comstock and Mark Hatton of Richland; daughter-in-law Jean Hatton; grandchildren, David Renae Hatton, Galesburg, Joseph Andrea Hatton, Richland, Kendall "Ted" Kelly Hatton, Kalamazoo, Elizabeth Hatton, Richland, Nikki Szuba, Lakeville, IN, Amanda Hatton; and seven great grand children, Collin, Gabriela and Bryce Hatton, Zack, Conner and Nikolas Szuba and Alexandrea Huff. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Norman L. Hatton and sons David Hatton, formerly of Paw Paw, and Michael Hatton formerly of Burton, Michigan. There will be no visitation. A private memorial service for the family is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Upjohn Community Care Center Alzheimer's Unit, Kalamazoo; or Hospice of SW Michigan.
