Betty Irene (Parker) Rock

March 2, 1923 — February 8, 2022

Portage

Passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, surrounded by family. Betty was born to the late Donald and Ella Mae Parker on March 2, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois. Early in life, Betty received a bachelor's degree in science, which she used to teach for a number of years. Even though she stopped teaching as her family grew, she never lost her love of learning and for science. She became enamored with flowers and spiders and started collecting spider mementos later in life. On June 13, 1944, Betty married the love of her life, Walter (Les), who she spent a loving life with until his passing in 2016. Her favorite pastime was spending time at her cottage in Parry Sound, Ontario Canada and had a number of close friends on the lake. She was very musically inclined, playing the organ, piano, and accordion. She would play at home for her family and for church services on Sundays in both Benton Harbor and Parry Sound, and later in life she would play for anyone who appreciated music at her retirement village. She was also an avid bibliophile and loved reading to her children and grandchildren. Betty not only had love for the written word but she was also very creative and loved to make small gifts and cards for her family and friends.

Surviving Betty are her children, Roxanne Rock, Russell (Jeanine Centuori) Rock, Roger (Sally) Rock, Ruthanne Longeway; seven grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in passing are her parents; her husband, Les; brothers, Donald and Robert Parker; and son-in-law, Edward Green.

Cremation will take place and a small graveside service for family will be held in her honor at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. To view Betty's personalized guestbook, please visit https://www.langelands.com
